Are these new 2020 kitchen and bathroom trends here to stay?
New year, new me? – says your home.
Everybody (and everything really) needs a fresh start, or at least something new every now and then, and this year it’s not only you who made a new year’s resolution to change things up: 2020 brought a new decade as well as new trends in home interior goals to our tables.
With ringing in the 20s of the new age, we are welcoming some changes in home design trends and they are most definitely here to spice up your home.
Therefore, without any further ado, let’s jump into this new and emerging trend pool of the new era!
1. White out, warm and bold in?
The last decade was defined by clean designs with, white and grey quartz countertops, and white cabinets in both kitchens and bathrooms, and while it is unsure if we can say goodbye to these color schemes for good, there are a lot of new trends emerging on the home interior scene.
2020 is bringing an era in which we are no longer afraid of some color in our kitchens and bathrooms.
The classic white, grey and laid-back colors are shifting towards warmer tones and creamy colors combined with old-school wood cabinets: gold, beige, and ivory countertops paired with light and dark wood cabinets will be the way to keep up with the trends this year.
Investing into countertops with soft natural tones will surely keep you on top of your style game this decade as well as increase your home’s value that people will be more likely to purchase if it ever comes down to selling it.
How do trendy countertops influence the ability of selling your home?
Ready-to-move-in homes that need little to no renovation will save a lot of time and money for buyers who will be willing to pay more for a turn-key house.
2. The comeback and newcomer of the year
White and grey marble and quartz have definitely been the top choices of homeowners for their countertop needs in the last few years; marble won us over for its sophisticated and clean look while quartz brought its sleekness and durability to our tables – or more like to our countertops.
At the end of 2019, we saw a rise in the demand of countertops with more warm colors, and it is definitely projected to make a comeback into our homes this year; quartzite, granite and quartz with golds and creams are coming back in style. They add an elegant look to both traditional and modern homes.
Porcelain countertops have actually been popular in Europe for a few years, but they are just appearing in U.S. homes now.
The biggest advantage of porcelain over any other materials is that while it can mimic those luxurious marble, quartzite or onyx looks we have fallen in love with, it is stain, scratch and heat resistant.
Porcelain countertops and shower panels are made of a single slab, so they really bring that flawless looking marble design with no grouts, seams, or hassle.
3. Full backsplash is back
Warmer tones and new color schemes do not mean the decline of a clean and contemporary look in kitchens and bathrooms – the only difference is that it is achieved in a different way.
The new decade will be the comeback year of full slab backsplashes that match countertops or a complementing color to achieve the modern and clean design in your home.
Full height backsplashes will allow you to have a seamless finish with no grout lines and achieve a much cleaner design of your kitchens than tiles have to offer, not to mention how much easier it is to clean one solid piece of a surface than small tiles with grout lines.
4. The reformation of kitchen islands
It is no secret that kitchen islands are one of the most sought-after parts of an American home – the bigger, the better, right?
Islands with high bars and 45 angles were dominating in the 2010s, but those times are over.
Don’t worry, islands themselves are not going away; the only difference that you will see is in how they are shaped and build.
In 2020, islands will become one level and/or center pieces of every kitchen with waterfall panels on each end that will bring the missing puzzle piece of that seamless and clean contemporary look to that we have just mentioned previously in your kitchen.
Besides its cool look of a waterfall panel, they will save time in cleaning as they are much easier to clean and maintain than regular cabinet panel: you’ll get rid of any dirt with a single wipe on their smooth surface.
So, these new kitchen islands will come with style while being practical?
Sounds like the best of both worlds for us…
5. Are these new trends here to stay?
Just like with any other trends, it is very difficult to predict whether a new design feature and style will stay relevant for years as it depends on a lot of different factors.
What we can say for sure is that interior design features take much longer to be demolished and forgotten than any other trends – therefore, it is advised taking them into consideration when renovating your home for either yourself or with the purpose of selling it.
A stylish and trendy home will have a higher value than an outdated one.
